673 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Backstories
Location: Logistics Operations Center "The Lock"

Daryn Kade was your typical human make of 21. Kinda cute, and he knew it, with his stylish short brown hair, blue eyes and rugged chin and olive skin. He figured out a long time ago the secret to the smoldering eye brow raise. Yeah he knew who he was.

Captain of the academy Velocity team, two years running prepared him for all kinds of fast paced, and potentially dangerous situations... such as this one.

He ducked behind the holo table as the image of the Concordia Station Flight and Berthing Management program code stuttered, proceeded by an angry grunt, and followed by a loud, surprisingly satisfied thwack, on the bulkhead just behind him.

He tentatively rose from cover. The voice of Ashir, the half Vulcan CPO, not doing the best job of hiding a very human laugh.

"I might remind you again, Lieutenant, that it was unwise of you to bring this to the commanders attention without a cup of cocoa at hand. "

Kades glare was almost unbecoming a Starfleet officer addressing a senior NCO, who had served many years with his new boss.

"Were not you the one who said she hates being 'sucked up to'?"

Oh now he gives a Vulcan eye brow raise.! "Indeed, but in this case I knew.."

"Oh shut it the both of you! Kade quit cowering behind that damned console and toss my hackey sack back!"

Lieutenant Commander Miley Coulfer. Kade had to admit, looked good angry, knew her stuff and was also a former captain of the academy Velocity team, he knew z if she was aiming for him she would have nailed him square between the eyes with her Dyson sphere hackery sack. So as a good gentleman, he did as big and tossed the sack be picked off the deck back to its owner.

Which she caught without taking her eyes off the holo of the control program.

Lieutenant Commander Coulfer studied the code for seeming eternity. She was never much of a code writer herself, her previous skill sets and occupations used a lot of professional code writers works. But she was always the hand on, down in the trenches type. Times like today she wished Shadee had joined fleet too. She wondered how her old... companion was doing these days.

Finally she shook her head and started bouncing her hackey sack from hand to hand, with the occasional kick up off her foot. She knew her loose hair made her look a little wild, sometimes, but it was always a shame tying it up.

"Shoot this back to the techies to get fixed. I'm glad you brought this to my attention, " she smirked his direction for a moment, all blindly handling her little bean bag, "but do listen to the chief in any matter, and I mean ANY, when he uses the word cocoa. "

She dropped her sack back in her left hand, and her smirk dropped just as quickly.

"Good catch. This would have made a nightmare of all docking and station traffic control once Concordia came on line." Lieutenant Commander Coulfer bit her lip for a fraction of a second and Kade wonders if she does this kind of thing on purpose, or if it's subconscious.

"I'll have Nile and Thames run collies on the traffic. They know what they are doing. " She stopped speaking and changed image displays and began to ponder is readouts, but said nothing. Lieutenant Kade looked to Chief Ashir for guidance, to see that infuriating non Vulcan- man- smirk again.

"That means go to it, Lieutenant. She is not often one for wasted time on words when time is precious. "

Lieutenant Kade nodded to the Chief, he was dismissed and he should get about his work, it seems.

Miley Coulfer watched the young Lieutenant leave the Lock and gave her head a hair waving shake. "He'll be alright, Chief. Just gotta burn the cock-sureness out of him"

The chief pretty officer smiled warmly back. "Indeed".

Now the two old friends got back to business.
